What Can I Expect During Physical Therapy?

During your first appointment, our provider performs a thorough physical examination and evaluates your needs. We usually ask you questions about your symptoms and your current strengths and limitations to perform daily tasks. If you have any medical records, we recommend you bring them, so we have the whole picture before starting your treatment.

Our team can test the following as part of your evaluation:

  • Mobility including walking and climbing steps
  • Reach and grasp
  • Posture
  • Balance and coordination
  • Vitals at rest and during physical activity

During your PT visits, we use specific methods to improve your health, including massage, heat, or cold therapy. We may incorporate chiropractic care to alleviate back or joint pain that interferes with your well-being.

We generally recommend you do exercises and stretches at home to build on the work we do at our practice. Our staff members make sure to demonstrate them and answer any questions you may have. This helps you perform these activities safely on your own.

As you make progress and reach specific goals, our physical therapist adjusts what we work on during your appointments and what you do at home.
